The certification was developed by the U.S Green Building Council as a performance-based rating system designed to accelerate the development and implementation of sustainable building practices.
  • Now that MP3s and Blu-ray hi-def movies are taking over, CDs, DVDs, and VHS tapes are taking after the record player. Recycle videocassettes and computer disks through an organization that provides jobs for disabled people, ACT Recycling.
  • Element is inspired by Westin and that’s why items such as the Westin Heavenly Bed can be found in all guestrooms.
  • In 2006, the idea of element was unveiled. Element promised guest a smart, nature-inspired extended stay experience featuring multi-functional furniture and spacious layouts.
  • In 2007, element’s first locations were announced. These included Toronto, Las Vegas, Chantilly, Virginia, and Portland, Oregon, Baltimore-Washington International Airport, and Dulles North, Virginia.
  • In a survey commissioned by element hotels, element revealed that 60% of frequent travelers drop their “green routines” on the road. 70% agree that they try and conserve water at home, but only 18% said that they do the same at a hotel.
  • Planning an event? If 10,000 people send ten e-vites on evite.com instead of paper invites, more than 10 trees would be saved. In a 2003 NY Times article, Evite.com reported that 63% of people actually respond to their e-invitations.
